Heading into the penultimate week of the regular volleyball season, the Lady Lobos find themselves ranked seventh in power points and in great shape for the upcoming Division III state tournament. Snowflake is 12-1 in regular season matches with its only loss coming to Division II powerhouse Cactus. Overall the Lobos are 29-5-1 in matches, which includes three in-season tournaments.

Snowflake just wrapped up the third of those tourneys, going 6-1 at the Barry Goldwater Invitational over the weekend. The Lobos defeated Goldwater, 2-1, North, 2-0, Prescott, 2-1, Rincon/University 2-0, Queen Creek, 2-1, and Desert Mountain, 2-1. Their lone loss was to Millennium, 2-0.

Prior to the tournament the Lobos were in Page on Wednesday, where they prevailed in three straight games. The following day they traveled to Window Rock for another 3-0 win over the Lady Scouts.

This week they hosted Tuba City on Tuesday and will play on Thursday, Oct. 22, at Winslow. In the final week of the regular season they are slated to host Ganado on Tuesday, Oct. 27, then wrap things up on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Holbrook.

The Division III state tournament will open on Thursday, Nov. 5, in Prescott Valley, and will be extremely challenging. Chandler Prep, Parker, Greenway and Agua Fria, are still unbeaten. Florence, Verrado and Desert Edge all join Snowflake with just one loss with two weeks left in the season. This year 32 teams will qualify for the state tourney.
