A young Texas man is sitting in the Navajo County Jail after about 8.8 pounds of black tar heroin was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop Monday on Interstate 40 near Holbrook.
According to the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy made the stop near milepost 274 on I-40 on Sept. 14. The deputy became suspicious when the driver could not account for his travel plans, and provided inconsistent statements about where he was traveling from and his destination. The deputy asked the suspect for permission to search his vehicle and reportedly located the illegal drugs. Heroin currently sells for approximately $30,000 per kilogram, but if it was broken down into street value per gram, the drug seizure would amount to approximately $394,000. Alan Rocha, 21, of San Antonio, Texas, was charged with transportation of a narcotic drug. He is being held at the jail on a $120,000 bond.
