Holbrook is about to get a little muddier. The inaugural Dirty Bird Mud Run is coming on Saturday, Aug. 29, to let locals and visitors alike get completely muddy. The Dirty Bird is a 5K run that will be covered in mud with obstacles throughout, including an under crawl, a log challenge and a tire run. The race provides a fun and athletic challenge for anyone wanting a unique workout, a great story or a new adventure to experience with friends. The Dirty Bird is open to anyone over the age of 10 and promises to be a great family event. Group discounts are given to teams of two or four persons, and special discounts are given to large organizations or sports teams looking for a fun team-building activity. Participants receive a T-shirt and bragging rights (until next year, that is) and, of course, a whole lot of mud. T-shirts were only guaranteed if participants registered before today (Aug. 21). The race will begin at 8 a.m. at the corner of Thirteenth Avenue and Buffalo Street. Preregistration is available on Active.com or in person at Holbrook City Hall. The cost is $25 for ages 10 to 17, $30 for 18 and older, $50 for teams of two and $100 for teams of four. Interested parties can call Kathleen Smith at city hall at (928) 524-6227 to receive information on special group rates for the event or other race-related questions.
