July 1 began an exciting chapter for Navajo County and for Laura Sanchez, as it was when she officially assumed her role as county recorder. Sanchez was sworn in to her position on June 9.

A Holbrook native, Sanchez began her career in the accounting field before joining the county recorder’s office in 2007. She was promoted to chief deputy recorder by Laurette Justman in 2011.

As registrar of voters, the recorder maintains voter records, and conducts accurate and consistent early voting in accordance with federal and state requirements.

The Navajo County Recorder’s Office is comprised of the recording division, which includes voter registration, voter outreach and early voting. The office also maintains official records of deeds of ownership as land and property is bought and sold throughout the county.

Sanchez says her latest transition has gone smoothly, and she looks forward to supporting the upcoming 2016 Presidential Preference, Primary and General elections.

“One thing I would like to work on this coming year is to implement Kids’ Voting at the elementary school level, in addition to our efforts registering students to vote at the high school level,” she said.

Sanchez welcomes the public to contact her with any questions or concerns. Feel free to email her directly using the Comments page at the Navajo County Arizona Government Services web page (http://www.navajocountyaz.gov/Departments/Recorder/Contact-Us) or call her at (928) 524-4191.
