Members of the Holbrook City Council discussed updates to the memorandum of understanding with the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce Tuesday evening.

City Manager Ray Alley noted that it is similar to the agreement approved for fiscal year 2014-15, listing $50,000 to be paid by the city to the chamber in monthly installments of $4,166.66. Per the tentative agreement, the city will manage printing of the Community Guide tourism booklet, and the chamber will continue to organize the Summer Cultural dances, Wild West Days and Christmas/Festival of Trees events for the city.

The council voted to present the revised agreement to the chamber board of directors for review before making a final decision.

In other action July 14, the council:

* Approved expenditure of funds not to exceed $5,816 to Precision Electric for repairs to a pump for the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

* Approved a request to expend funds to HD Supply as a sole source provider in the amount not to exceed $10,218.00 for the purchase of three pedestrian lights with a one-year warranty. The decorative fixtures were originally installed in the downtown area as part of the streetscape project. The new lights will replace damaged units within the city’s inventory.

* Approved the reappointment of Vice Mayor Wade Carlisle as the representative to the Northern Arizona Council of Governments Regional Council.

Councilman Richard Peterson will serve as Carlisle’s substitute.

* Held the first reading of an ordinance detailing amendment of the legal description for West Public Works Drive.

* Held the first reading of an ordinance ratifying the agreement with the Arizona Department of Revenue for the purpose of collection, audit and/or licensing of transaction privilege tax.

* Approved the renewal of an agreement with Coletta Keesee for massage therapy services at the Holbrook Fitness Center.

* Approved payment of claims made June 18-July 8.

Councilwoman Francie Payne recused herself from the discussion and vote because the claims included ones made by The Tribune-News, her employer. Such claims will be listed separately in the future, as are claims made by Walt’s Hardware, which is co-owned by Vice Mayor Carlisle.

* Approved claims/expenditure to Walt’s Hardware in the amount of $1057.87.

Prior to the regular meeting, the council, which includes three new members, met with staff members of the Arizona League of Cities and Towns in a work session to learn or be refreshed on the state’s open meeting and conflict of interest laws.
