The Snowflake Town Council declared May 26 Lobos Day in honor of the boys’ track team, which earned the 2015 Division III state championship.

Councilman Lynn Johnson is head coach of the boys’ track team, with assistants Greg Adams, Denise Caffre, Joseph Clare, Ashley Davis, Art Hargrove, Ben Hipps, Brian Lang, Lyndsay Lyman and Jim Sanderson.

This is the first time since 2005 that the Lobos have earned the state title, and they did it through a team effort.

“This is déjà vu,” said Mayor Tom Poscharsky, noting the council has previously recognized the SHS boys’ basketball and wrestling teams for their state titles.

“This is a great opportunity that I get to brag on the athletes at Snowflake High School,” said Johnson, noting that the last thing they wanted to do at the end of the year was come to practice, run or work out, and focus. “The athletes did a great job this year.”

Sixty student-athletes participated this season, and 17 boys and 14 girls went to the state track meet.

“It was a team effort,” he said, explaining that they took first place in only one event, the 4×100 meter relay.

Johnson said that at least one Lobo competed in every event except two, and as a team they beat the second place team by 21 points.

“Every point counted,” he said. “I can’t say enough about the team effort.”

The council recognized the team members, including Brenton Ballard, Keagan Bjornn, Dallin Chapman, Luke Craun, Kaden Davis, Thad Frei, Jordon Gardner, Jake Hall, Dylan Kay, Kendal Kay, John Lunt, Eldon McCray, Drew Schneider, Alec Solomon, Justin Webber, Tanner Willis and Kurt Wood.
