The Lady Lobos’ season came to a close in the quarterfinal round of the Division III state softball playoffs with a 6-1 loss to fellow section member and No. 1 seeded Payson last Friday evening.
Ninth seed Snowflake earned its way to that point in the bracket with a 6-5 opening round win over the No. 24 Page Lady Sand Devils on May 2 and a lopsided 14-4 victory over the No. 8 Sedona Red Rock Lady Scorpions on May 6.
The Lobos took the early lead over the Scorpions with a run in the first followed by another in the third. Sedona fought back to tie it in the fourth only to see Snowflake pull away for good in the top of the fifth with two runs. The Lobos extended that lead in the sixth with six runs, putting the game out of reach. They compiled 19 hits in their final win of the season.
Snowflake put a wrap on the season with an overall record of 23-11-1.
Payson was slated to match up with No. 6 Empire in the title game Monday night.
