The Lady Wildcats have worked their way into the top 24 in the Division IV power point rankings by compiling an 11-4 regular season record, good enough for the 16th position when this week began.
Joseph City fell at Round Valley last Thursday, getting outscored 12-0 in the first three innings en route to a 12-2 final score. In that contest Haley Edwards worked 22/3 innings on the mound, giving up 12 runs on only three hits with seven walks and a strikeout. Krista Edwards pitched 11/3 innings, giving up no runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.
At the plate, Chalet Baldwin, Morgan Johnson, and Mary Larsen all went 1 for 2. Haley Edwards was also 1 for 2 with a double. Sadie Tuckfield went 1 for 3 with a double. Krista Edwards was also 1 for 3 in the loss.
Friday’s home game with Northland Prep was a slugfest for both teams, but Joseph City prevailed in the end, 20-15. The first inning was relatively normal with the Cats leading 2-1 heading to the second. In the top of the second the visiting Lady Spartans pushed in six runs, then added three more in the third to build a 10-2 lead. Joseph City battled back with two in the third to stay in touch with the score at 10-4. Northland Prep added to its lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. That eight-run lead fell apart in the bottom of the inning when the Cats exploded for 11 runs to take the lead for good. They expanded that margin to 20-12 after six innings. Northland Prep tried to mount a challenge in the top of the seventh, but fell short after scoring three runs.
Haley Edwards worked 51/3 innings, giving up eight runs on 15 hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. Krista Edwards pitched 12/3 innings, allowing seven runs on four hits with seven walks and struck out one.
Baldwin went 3 for 4. Johnson was 2 for 4. Haley Edwards went 2 for 4 with a double. Sharon Larsen also doubled, going 1 for 5. Tacye Baldwin went 3 for 5. Tuckfield was 2 for 5 with a double and a triple. Krista Edwards went 2 for 4 and Mary Larsen was 3 for 4.
Just three games remain on the Wildcats regular season schedule. They will play a double header in Rock Point today (April 22), then close out the season with a home game against St. Johns on Monday, April 27. If they remain in the top 24 as expected, they will earn a berth in the Division IV state tournament.
