The Warriors of Sun Valley Indian School were edged by St. Anthony’s of Show Low last week in a Desert Pine Sports League matchup between undefeated teams. The Warriors held a slim lead in the first, then a commanding 25-18 lead at halftime. The third quarter was not so kind, as the Warriors only made one basket and led 27-25 going into the fourth. The home court advantage helped in the end as the Eagles rallied to win 37-35. The Warriors were led by Levander Dewey with 16 points, followed by Carlton Nez with 7. Second chance points proved to be the difference as the Eagles held an 11-6 advantage in that department. The junior varsity Warriors dominated St. Anthony’s, 32-11. Led by Eligle Begay on offense and Heavyn Halwood on defense, the Warriors look to compete at high levels in the league for years to come.
