With their final week of the regular season played completely on the road, the Snowflake Lady Lobos picked up one win against two losses, but still remain highly ranked in the overall state playoff picture.
Tuesday night’s game in Holbrook went back and forth throughout the first two periods, eventually ending with a 28-28 halftime tie. Holbrook edged out to a four-point lead in the third, then closed the game out at the free throw line in the fourth, handing Snowflake a 52-45 setback. Tycee Coplan led the Lobos with 15 points. Kadi Johnson added 10; Tori Flake, 9; Marisa Godfrey, 6; and Melissa Eich, 5.
Thursday’s game in Show Low went much smoother for Snowflake. The Lobos led by just six after the first period, but held the Cougars to single digits in the following quarters to win the game 55-29. Godfrey led the way with 14 points. Flake added 12; Coplan, 11; Johnson, 8; Eich, 4; and Audrey Livingston, Carina Crandall, and Madison Butler, 2 each.
Snowflake closed out the regular season at Winslow on Friday, where the Lobos struggled with the Lady Bulldogs’ pressure defense in the beginning of each half en route to a 54-35 loss. Winslow outscored the Lobos a combined 25-10 in the first and third periods to seize control of the game.
Snowflake and Holbrook have played two relatively close games this season and the two were slated to meet again at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday in a sectional semifinal game played a Show Low. If the third seeded Lobos can get past second seeded Holbrook, they would most likely face top seeded Winslow in the sectional championship game scheduled at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, in Show Low. With a loss in either game, the Lobos are still sitting in good position in the overall Division III state power point rankings. They headed into this week ranked 12th and will most certainly host a first round game next week if they don’t win the sectional tournament, which would guarantee them a first round bye.
Snowflake completed the regular season with a record of 16-12 and was 12-6 in power point contests.
