The Roadrunners easily won their final regular season game at Alchesay last Friday night, pulling away from a seven-point halftime lead to win the game 53-30.

Holbrook’s defense did a great job of shutting down the Falcons’ offensive penetration by taking numerous charges in the paint, three of which came from Quinlan Keoni in the first half alone. With Holbrook struggling from distance, making just two three-point shots, far short of the Birds’ usual average, their defense clamped down to hold the Falcons to just 11 points in the second half.

Marcel Young led Holbrook’s offense with 17 points. Abrian Dickson added 13; Marlin Martin, 10; Sylas Chevarillo, 7; Quinlan Keoni, 4; and Alec Smith, 2. Holbrook made two three-point field goals, one each from Dickson and Young, and the team converted nine of 13 free throws.

The Falcons were led by Rashaan Stover with 9 points. They didn’t make a single three and went four for eight at the line.

Holbrook is ranked No. 2 in Section IV of Division III and will face No. 3 Winslow at 5:15 p.m. today (Feb. 11) at Show Low High School, site of the sectional tournament for this year. If the Roadrunners can get past Winslow, they would face either top ranked Snowflake or No. 4 Blue Ridge in the championship game slated at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14. Holbrook and Winslow split their two games played during the regular season. If the Roadrunners can win the section tournament, they will be seeded in the top three in the state tournament and will receive a first round bye. Even with a loss they may still receive a first round bye as one of the top eight teams. The final state bracket won’t be determined until Sunday.

Holbrook wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 23-7 under first year head coach Delmar Johnson. The Birds’ power point record is 13-5 and has them currently ranked third in Division III.
