The Lady Bulldogs of Winslow earned wins over the visiting Payson Lady Longhorns last Thursday, 67-39, and their hosts, the Show Low Lady Cougars, on Friday, 48-14. The wins improved Winslow’s record to 21-4 for the season.

The Bulldogs started strong against Payson and had built a commanding 23-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Winslow increased the lead in the second quarter and had more than doubled Payson’s score by the half, taking a 45-21 lead to the locker room. The rout continued in the third quarter, which ended with the Bulldogs enjoying a 65-28 lead. The running clock due to the commanding lead meant that there was virtually no chance of a Payson comeback.

Shandiin Armao led Winslow’s offense with 15 points. Jayce Sangster added 11 and Lynnae Mitchell, 10.

Payson was led by Rachel Knauer with 7.

The next evening, Winslow started strong and had built a 27-6 lead by the end of the first half. Show Low did not score in the first quarter. The Bulldogs were still in total control with the score at 46-12 going into the final period with a running clock due to the lead.

The Bulldogs played without Armao, who was rested to let her recuperate from injuries, which have caused some concern.

They were slated to host Window Rock on Tuesday, Safford on Thursday, Feb. 5, and Snowflake on Friday, Feb. 6, to finish the regular season. The playoffs begin on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
