Hosting their final multiple of the season on Wednesday the Roadrunner wrestlers picked up three team dual wins against one loss.
Holbrook defeated Winslow, 57-24, Page, 54-27, and Snowflake, 60-24. The loss came against St. Johns, which dominated the Birds, 68-6. Theron Johns and Kohl Potts were the only grapplers who won against the Redskins.
Individually, Johns went 4-0 on the day to lead Holbrook. Those going 3-1 were Noah Barela, Darrin Tyler, Jedde Bowman, Shane McGraw, Logan Tsiniginnie and Robert Romo. Zakhari Waits, Kohl Potts and Zach McLaws all went 2-2. Winning one match each were Dominick Spencer, Cole McDaniel, and Ethan Kaye. David Hung wrestled hard, but was winless in three matches.
“We definitely had our ups and downs. We need to wrestle more consistent to be successful,” said Coach John Bokker.
“It is always sad to have Senior Night, because you know it is their last year. It is going to be especially sad to see Theron go. I have been taking him to tournaments and working with him since the fifth grade.”
Those wrestlers who have qualified will compete in the sectional tournament on Saturday, Feb. 7, in Winslow. Those advancing from there will compete in the state championships, which begin on Thursday, Feb. 12, in Prescott Valley.
