The Lady Roadrunners picked up wins over Show Low and Chinle over the weekend, extending their season mark to 18-6. Friday’s game at Show Low was decided fairly quickly, thanks to a quick start from Cheyenne Lester, who drilled four three-point shots in the first period to pace Holbrook to a 15-5 first period lead. Balanced scoring the rest of the way paved the way for the 54-18 road win. Cheyenne Lester led the Roadrunner offense with 12 points. Summer Olney added 9; Quanyyah Lester, 8; Teyah Goldtooth, Tyler Pacheco and Adriana Monroe, 5 each; Dishie Kinlicheenie and Rochelle Nez, 4 each; and Dakota Dick, 2. Holbrook made five treys and went 13 for 20 at the line. Saturday marked the beginning of a tough season ending schedule for the Birds, who entered this week’s action ranked seventh in power points. Hosting Chinle in front of a large crowd, they raced out to a 10-point first period lead. The Lady Wildcats had trimmed that margin to eight by the half. Holbrook got hot from the outside in the third, making four three-pointers, two from Goldtooth, which pushed the margin to 11. In the fourth the Birds continued to shoot well, piling up 24 points and sending Chinle home with a 71-50 loss. Goldtooth led four Holbrook players in double figures with 14. Cheyenne Lester added 13; Nez. 12; and Quanyyah Lester, 10. Kinlicheenie added 8; Monroe, 7; Olney, 5; and Pacheco, 2. The Roadrunners made eight three-point shots and went 11 for 13 at the line. “Friday’s game we just needed to get through healthy, which we did,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “On Saturday night we played well in front of a big crowd. We got out into transition better than we have in a while, we shot the ball well, and I thought it was one of our better defensive efforts against good guards in some time. “The rest of our schedule is brutal, but it will help prepare us for the upcoming post-season.” After hosting No. 3 Winslow on Tuesday night in front of a packed house, the Birds will welcome in No. 5 Tuba City on Thursday, Jan. 29, as well as what should be another large crowd. On Saturday, Jan. 31, they will travel to Sanders to face Valley in a rematch of an earlier season loss to the Lady Pirates, who have just one loss on the season. On Tuesday, Feb. 3, which will be Senior Night, they will host Snowflake. The final game of the regular season will be played on Friday, Feb. 6, against Alchesay in Whiteriver.
