The Lobos continued their impressive march through the regular season by picking up three more wins in last week’s action to stay on top of the Division III power point rankings. Snowflake took down Show Low at home on Tuesday, then beat Alchesay on the road Thursday and Monument Valley after a long road trip on Saturday.
Tuesday’s home game with the Cougars saw the Lobos start slowly and trail by four after the first eight minutes. In the second they rallied to tie the game before halftime. Snowflake put the hammer down in the third, then cruised to the 65-54 win in the final period.
Travis Flake led the way with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Gardner added 17 points; Caedon Ervien, 10; Kurt Wood, 7; Tanner Crosby, 6; Kegan Bjornn, 4; and Gunner Caldwell, 2.
Playing in Whiteriver is tough for many opponents and through the first half the Lobos found themselves trailing 30-29. Another strong third period gave them a six-point lead over Alchesay and they extended it to nine in the fourth to win the game 67-58. Flake had another strong game, scoring 20 points. Wood added 17; Crosby, 10; Ervien, 8; Gardner, 6; Caldwell, 4; and Kegan Bjornn, 2.
Saturday’s trip to Kayenta to face the Monument Valley Mustangs ended with Snowflake winning 64-45. The long bus ride didn’t faze the Lobos, who jumped out to a 20-3 lead in the first period. From that point on the game was played evenly, but the damage had been done, giving Snowflake its 18th win of the season against just two losses. Flake again led the offense with 19 points. Bjornn added 14; Wood and Crosby, 10 each; Caldwell, 6; Gardner and Eldon McCray, 2 each; and Ervien, 1.
Snowflake headed into Tuesday’s home game with Alchesay on an eight-game winning streak. The Lobos now have a stretch of five straight home games before finishing the regular season with four road trips. They will host Round Valley tonight (Jan. 21), Payson on Friday, Jan. 23, and Globe on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
