Needing to win the majority of their remaining games if they hope to reach the post-season, the Joseph City Wildcats instead suffered a pair of setbacks last week, losing to Mogollon on Tuesday and to El Capitan on Saturday.
Hosting the Eagles from El Capitan on Saturday the Wildcats fell 63-30. Koby Smith led the team in scoring with 10 points. Troy Poudrier added 9; Matt Fields, 4; Landon Baldwin, 3; and Hayden Hendricks and Bryson Palmer, 2 each.
Tuesday’s home game with Mogollon also went the wrong way for Joseph City as the Cats fell to the Mustangs, 71-52.
After hosting Cibecue on Tuesday, the Cats will play at Superior on Friday, Jan. 23, then return to the road the next day for a game at Fort Thomas. On Tuesday, Jan. 27, they will play Mogollon in Heber.
Joseph City ended last week ranked 40th in power points and needs to rise into the top 24 before the end of the season to make the state playoffs. The Wildcats’ overall mark heading into this week’s action was 6-15.
