The Lady Roadrunners won in Payson on Friday night, running past the bigger Lady Longhorn team for a 71-48 win. The Holbrook squad also cruised to a 58-16 home court win against a struggling Globe Lady Tiger team on Saturday afternoon. Tuesday’s game at Payson saw the Roadrunners utilize their quicker lineup, which caused problems for the much taller Longhorn players, resulting in a 39-20 halftime lead. Holbrook continued to play well in the third and went on to easily win the game. Ten of the 12 Roadrunners in uniform scored in the game, led by Summer Olney with 12 points. Teyah Goldtooth added 10; Laurie Brown, Ariyana Pratt and Adriana Monroe, 9 each; Dakota Dick and Rochelle Nez, 7 each; Cheyenne Lester and Dishie Kinlicheenie, 3 each; and Quanyyah Lester, 2. Holbrook made eight three-point field goals and went 13 for 19 at the free throw line. Payson was led by Arissa Paulson with 14 points. The Longhorns did not make a three-point shot and hit four of 10 charity shots. Saturday’s game with Globe was over early after Holbrook grabbed a 20-2 lead at the end of the first. That lead grew to 44-6 at the half. In the second the Roadrunners took their time, running several plays with younger players before winning the game 58-16. All 11 players dressed for the game scored for the Birds led by Nez with 9. Quanyyah Lester and Pratt added 8 each; Goldtooth, 7; Brown, Cheyenne Lester, Tyler Pacheco and Monroe, 5 each; Olney, 3; Twyla Clark, 2; and Kinlicheenie, 1. Holbrook made three treys and went 11 for 16 at the line. Globe was led by Shaylyn Maclean and Kaitlin Case with 5 points each. The Tigers made two three-point shots and went two for 10 at the line. With the two wins the Roadrunners improved to 15-6 on the season. Prior to Saturday’s game they were ranked 10th in power points with a 5-3 record in those games. After playing Blue Ridge at Lakeside on Tuesday, they will travel to Show Low on Friday, Jan. 23. The next day they will host Chinle in a game that begins a very difficult end of the season stretch for them. On Tuesday, Jan. 27, they will host Winslow in a rematch in which the Birds hope to avenge a four-point loss in early December.
