The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City have compiled an 8-5 mark through the first half of the season, which included their 1-2 record at the Winslow Winter Classic held just prior to Christmas. In that tournament Joseph City struggled against the bigger schools of Window Rock and Tuba City, but closed the tourney on a high note with a one-point win over Greyhills.
Facing Tuba City in the first round the Lady Cats found themselves trailing 23-3 at the end of the first period. The third quarter was similar, leaving Joseph City on the wrong end of a 74-17 final score.
Day two of the two-day tournament found the Cats matching up with Window Rock in their first game. The Lady Scouts, while not quite as powerful as Tuba City, still are a solid group and they doubled up Joseph City in the first period. Window Rock led each quarter, eventually winning the game 57-26.
Joseph City met up with Greyhills in its third and final game of the tournament, and this game was much closer throughout. The Cats led by three after the first, but found themselves knotted at 21-21 at the half. Both teams scored 10 in the third and headed to the final period still tied. In the fourth Joseph City managed one more point than the Lady Knights to win the game 47-46.
The Wildcats head into January ranked 27th in the power point rankings with a 3-2 record in those games. After hosting Northland Prep on Tuesday, they will play at Ash Fork on Thursday, Jan. 8, and at Fredonia on Saturday, Jan. 10. On Tuesday, Jan. 13, they will welcome in Mogollon.
