The Holbrook Roadrunners cruised past visiting Valley Sanders on Monday night, using the long ball to propel them to a 76-34 outcome. Collectively, the Roadrunners drained 13 treys through the first three quarters, taking a commanding lead early in the game and never looking back against an overmatched Valley team.
The teams played fairly even through the first eight minutes with the Birds holding a 20-15 edge. Marlin Martin nailed three treys in the frame, setting up what would become a good perimeter shooting night for Holbrook. The home team took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Pirates 22-9. Twenty-eight more points in the third really blew the doors open. Holbrook’s defense pitched a shutout in the final period, holding Valley scoreless.
Alec Smith led the Roadrunners in scoring with 15 points, including three treys. Abrian Dickson added 13, also making three from distance. Martin had three trifectas, scoring 13 points. Sylas Chevarillo also hit a three and scored 9. Quinlan Keoni scored all of his eight points the old fashioned way. Marcel Young added 7, with six coming from behind the arc. Rhett Desiderio added 5, Miireux Begaii netted 4 and Marcos Clark hit one three-point shot. Holbrook made seven of 13 free throw shots.
Valley was led by Harold Matt with 11. Jowason Yazzie added 9; Apollo Smith, 7; Zach Shirley, 5; and Casey James, 2. The Pirates made two three-point shots and went nine for 11 at the free throw line.
With the win Holbrook moved to 11-5 on the season. After playing at Ganado Thursday night, the Roadrunners will be off until Jan. 6 when they play at Snowflake.
