The Joseph City Lady Wildcats’ road win at St. Johns last Tuesday night was a nail biter decided by Lindi Gardner’s two free throws in the final 16 seconds to secure the 40-38 win.
Both teams started slowly with the Lady Redskins leading 9-6 at the end of one. That margin grew to six points at the half. The Cats played well defensively in the third quarter, allowing just four points to the home team and pulled within two with eight minutes to play. In the fourth both teams scored well, but Gardner’s final two points put the Wildcats on top for good.
Gardner had an all around solid game, scoring 11 points with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Katelyn Pugh also netted 11 with five boards. Krista Edwards scored 7, Amanda Baldwin, 6, Mary Larsen and Chalet Baldwin, 2 each, and Taylor Elmer, 1.
With the win the Wildcats improved to 6-1 on the season.
After hosting Round Valley on Tuesday, Joseph City will remain at home to host St. Michael tonight (Dec. 17). Beginning on Thursday they will play in the Winslow Winter Classic, with games also scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
