The Roadrunners came up short in Winslow Tuesday night, falling to the Bulldogs 53-47.

Holbrook played well early, opening up a six-point lead by the end of the first with Sylas Chevarillo, Marcel Young and Alex Smith each dropping in a pair of buckets. Playing in front of their home fans for the first time this season, the Bulldogs trimmed all but two points off Holbrook’s margin by the half.

The third quarter was the difference maker. Winslow came out strong with Trelonnie Sanders connecting on three treys to spark his team to an eight-point lead heading to the fourth. Holbrook netted just 10 points in the frame, with four coming from Young. Marlin Martin scored all six of his points in the final period, but the Roadrunners weren’t able to close the gap down the stretch.

Young led Holbrook with 11 points. Chevarillo added 10; Martin and Smith, 6 each; Nathan Johnson, 4; Miireux Begaii and Quinlan Keoni, 4 each; and Abrian Dickson scored 2 in his first action of the season.

Holbrook made two three-point shots, one each by Chevarillo and Young, and went seven for 10 at the free throw line.

Sanders led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Tylon Yazzie added 11; Akeem Foster, 9; Dalvin Benally, 8; Devon Flanagan and Trevon Flanagan, 4 each; Mark Faust, 3; and Kory Billie, 2. Winslow made five treys and went 14 for 16 at the charity stripe.

With the loss Holbrook falls to 6-3 on the season. After playing in the Round Valley Tournament this weekend in Eagar, the Roadrunners will host Valley Sanders on Monday, Dec. 15
