To tune up for the season, the Bulldogs scrimmaged against Tuba City and Northland Prep of Flagstaff on Nov. 20. According to Coach Ricky Greer, the games went well.
“We were very pleased. We saw two different styles. Tuba City is more guard oriented and lives from the outside, and Northland Prep had some size and wanted to pound the ball inside,” said the coach.
“I really feel that this team is as deep as any I have had over the last six seasons. This is the strongest group of post players I have had. In both scrimmages, Mark Faust, Savion Fuller, and Trevon Flanagan controlled the boards and contributed on the score sheet. Our guards are very quick and create some match-up problems themselves, they are quick defensively with active hands.
“Trelonnie Sanders, Dalvin Benally, Rory Billie, Devon Flanagan and Kuster Kinlecheenie all did a great job forcing turnovers and turning those into transition. They really fly up and down the court. I think the fans in attendance really enjoyed the pace of play. The team can really match-up with most teams, post or guard oriented. I think it will make us a very tough team.”
The Bulldog roster includes seniors Trelonnie Sanders, Devon Flanagan, Jalen Brady, Kordell McReeves, Trevon Flanagan, Joey Kelly, Tylon Yazzie, Austyn Mattox, Luke Hunt and Savion Fuller, juniors Dalvin Begay, Rey Chavez-Velez, Kuster Kinlecheenie, Akkeem Foster and Mark Faust, and sophomore Rory Billy.
The Bulldogs are being coached by Greer, varsity assistant Nathan Brady, junior varsity coaches Scott Corum and Jim MacLean, and freshman coach Zach French.
The Bulldogs were slated to play the Scouts at Window Rock Tuesday night, and will participate in the Red Rock Hoops Classic scheduled Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 4-6, in Sedona.
