The Holbrook wrestling team opened the season last Tuesday at the Chinle Multiple meet, where the Roadrunners went 4-0. They defeated Red Mesa 60-18; Many Farms, 66-12; Ganado, 58-18; and Chinle, 36-34.

Individually, Theron Johns, Justin Richards, Shane McGraw and Logan Tsinijinnie went 4-0. Dominic Spencer, Noah Barela, Mac Stump, Robert Romo, Sheron Yazzie and Zach McClaws all went 3-1. Sam Plumb was 2-2 and Kenia Alvarado went 1-1.

“We had three open weight classes, so we knew we would be behind before we even started. We wrestled well for our first match of the year, but there is much improvement to be made,” said Coach John Bokker. “Justin, Logan and Sheron had some tough matches where they were down and came back at the end. Kenia Alvarado won her first varsity match at 138 against Ganado.”

Winning exhibition matches for Holbrook were David Hung, Darrin Tyler and Kohl Potts.

The Roadrunners will host the Pat Kenny Tournament this weekend, with matches getting underway early Friday afternoon and continuing through Saturday.
