Both Lobo soccer teams advanced to the second round of the state playoffs with first round victories last Thursday, but neither squad was able to keep that momentum going.

Snowflake’s 10th seeded boys’ team traveled to face No. 7 Holbrook on Thursday night and left for home with a 2-0 win. Snowflake scored near the 10-minute mark in each half, then turned away several Holbrook attempts in the second half with some stellar goalie play.

With that victory the Lobos advanced in the bracket to face second seeded Payson on Saturday. The Longhorns proved worthy of their high ranking, ending Snowflake’s season with a 3-1 win.

Payson will join Blue Ridge, Desert Christian and Chino Valley in the semifinal round on Friday, Nov. 7.

Snowflake ends the season with an overall record of 6-8 including the state tournament matches.

Playing as the fourth seed the Lady Lobos hosted fifth seeded Round Valley last Thursday, ending the Lady Elks season with a 3-0 victory. Macie Rawlins scored a pair of goals and Brittany Brubaker added the other to advance Snowflake to the second round.

In round two Snowflake met up with top ranked Blue Ridge and found things a lot tougher. The Lady Yellowjackets showed why they are the top team, shutting out the Lobos 5-0 to end their season with a record of 8-4-1.

Blue Ridge will face Northland Prep on Saturday, Nov. 8, in the championship match.
