The Holbrook Police Department has a new addition to its uniform that will benefit both officers and the public. Each of the officers is now outfitted with a Taser Axon body camera.

The camera is a clip-on usually worn on the officer’s lapel or pocket, and provides video and audio of each incident to which the officers respond.

“This camera provides a 180 degree view of what the officer is doing at a call. This protects both the officer and the citizens if there is any question about events that took place,” explained Police Chief Mark Jackson, adding that the video will be kept on file for 180 days in accordance with state statute.

The 17 cameras were purchased with RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) funds made available to Navajo County at a cost of $299 per camera.

The Holbrook officers began wearing the cameras on Oct. 3.
