After years of futility against the Yellowjackets, the Lobos finally found themselves on the winning side in their home field matchup with Blue Ridge last Friday night. Blue Ridge has really struggled this season, coming into this game with just two wins, both against low level teams. Snowflake, on the other hand, has an impressive mark of 4-1 with that one loss coming to a very good and top ranked Seton Catholic squad.
Snowflake started a little slowly, leading just 14-3 at the half. In the second half the Lobos put the hammer down, thanks in part to four rushing touchdowns from Drew Schneider. Trevor McCray, Tyler Claridge and Lane Penrod also found the end zone on carries.
With the win the Lobos improved to 5-1 on the season and may climb a little in the power point rankings, where they were sitting in the fourth position when the week began.
Seton Catholic is number one, followed by Coolidge and Sahuarita. All of those schools are unbeaten on the season.
This week the Lobos travel to face ninth ranked Fountain Hills. The Falcons have a 3-3 record, with losses to Coolidge, Estrella Foothills and Payson last week. Wins over Coronado, Florence and Wickenburg are not impressive enough to pick them to win over the Lobos. Look for the Snowflake squad to continue to roll toward its huge matchup with Show Low on Friday, Oct. 24.
