The results of the August Northeastern Arizona PAL Sportsmen’s Association Handgun Match included: Auto-1, Richard Harris, Mark Whitmer and Frank Lucero; Auto-2, Allen Papin and Rob Soles; Revolver, Allen Papin and George Baum; and Rifle, Frank Lucero, George Baum and Mark Whitmer. Stage winners were: first and second stages, Richard Harris; third stage, Mark Whitmer; and fourth stage, Frank Lucero. It was a nice summer day for the match with lots of sunshine. Individuals were shooting new handguns, and proved the old tale that a new gun should be well lubed and broken in with about 100 rounds before using. The first stage was an 18-round standards course with some tough “no-shoot” targets, which caused quite a few penalty points. There were reloads and weak hand shooting involved. The second stage was a 24-round field that involved shooting around cover. Again, the no-shoot target caused quite a few penalty points. Stage three was a 16-round steel course with a small six-inch stop plate. Stage 4 was a six-round speed course, again with no-shoot targets. The next handgun match with categories for pistol and revolver will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. Time permitting there will be a shotgun match afterwards. Match fees for members are $5 per gun and for non-members, $8. The group shoots under USPSA/IPSC rules. Eye and ear protection are mandatory. Bring gloves, water, a snack and a pen.
