The Lobos opened their 2014 gridiron campaign in fine form with a 37-6 win over Mingus last Friday night. It took Snowflake a while to get on track, but a 19-point fourth period finished up an impressive win.

Only one score by either team in the first period left the Lobos with a 6-0 edge. In the second both teams found the end zone once, although neither converted on the point after, sending the teams to the break with Snowflake tenuously on top, 12-6. The third period looked much like the first with the only score belonging to the home team. Finally in the fourth Snowflake found its stride, piling up 19 points to win the game.

Defensively, the Lobos played well throughout the game, holding the bigger school to only one touchdown.

Lane Penrod led the defensive effort with 14 tackles. Wyatt McKinlay was credited with 12 and Keegan Bjornn finished with 10 takedowns. Snowflake’s defensive front dominated with seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Bjornn and Porter Black each made fumble recoveries, and Wyatt McKinlay contributed on special teams with a blocked punt.
