The Holbrook Chamber of Commerce will receive a total of $57,000 over the course of the 2014-15 fiscal year, and the Navajo County Historical Society will receive $2,700 per month as part of agreements approved by the Holbrook City Council Tuesday evening.
City Manager Ray Alley explained that the chamber will continue to be responsible for most events, such as the Native American dances and Wild West Days, while the city will assist with the Man and Woman of the Year Banquet and Parade of Lights.
The agreement also outlines responsibility for office space, with the city agreeing to pay all utilities for the chamber’s office space at the historic county courthouse.
Under the agreement with the historical society, the city will provide $2,700 each month to offset the society’s staffing costs. The historical society will ensure that the front desk at the visitor’s center is staffed and displays are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days per week, except for legal holidays.
The city will also provide utilities, maintenance and janitorial services for the courthouse, with the exception of the annex wing in which the historical society offices are located.
Both agreements are for one year and were included in the tentative 2014-15 budget recently approved by the council.
