By Greg Perkins Despite dropping the only game they played last week to Snowflake, the Lady Roadrunners will be headed to the post-season when the state tournament begins this weekend. Coming into the final week of the regular season, Holbrook was ranked 15th in the power point standings with a 7-9 record. After hosting Alchesay on Tuesday, they will wrap up the regular season today (April 30) when St. Johns makes a visit. Last Thursday’s game at Snowflake resulted in a 7-3 win by the Lady Lobos. Snowflake scored twice in each of the first two innings, then made it a 7-0 lead with three in the third. Holbrook tried to mount a rally in the sixth, scoring three runs, but that was how the game ended. Tess Baldonado took the loss in the circle, where she allowed seven runs on nine hits with two walks and one strikeout to the 29 batters she faced in six innings of work. At the plate Baldonado helped her own cause, going 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Elizabeth Luna went 1 for 3, as did Mariah Cummings, Demo Perkins and Cheyenne Lester. Lauren Silversmith was 1 for 2 and scored a run. Isabelle Jacques went 1 for 1 and scored once. The Division III state tournament begins on Saturday, May 3, at the Rose Mofford Complex in Phoenix. The Roadrunners will play at 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., depending on their final seeding.
