By Greg Perkins The Holbrook Roadrunners suffered an 8-3 road loss to the Lobos last Thursday in Snowflake. The Lobos took the lead with two runs in the second, then added two more in the third and doubled up their score with four in the fourth, building an 8-0 lead. The Roadrunners tried to rally with two runs in the fifth, then added another in the sixth, but that was as close as they would get. Snowflake scored eight runs on nine hits, made just one error and left three stranded. Holbrook countered with 13 hits, made seven errors and left six on base. Trevor Barton pitched 31/3 innings, facing 20 Lobo batters. He allowed eight runs, only four earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts. Buddy Wagoner worked 22/3 innings, allowing no hits or runs with one strikeout while facing nine batters. At the plate Barton went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Wagoner was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Carlos Quintana went 2 for 4. Nikko Ferniza was 2 for 3. Nick Robinson went 2 for 3 with a double and scored once. Cade Maestas was 1 for 3 and stole a base. Ben Nafziger went 1 for 1, and Julian Garcia went 2 for 2 and scored a run. Holbrook enters the final week of the regular season ranked 33rd in the power rankings. Even with wins in the final two games the Birds will finish outside the top 24 in the final standings and will not reach the state tournament. After hosting Alchesay on Tuesday, the Roadrunners will host St. Johns in their season finale today (April 30).
