By Greg Perkins The Lady Roadrunners have dropped three straight heading into this week’s action, but they remained in the top 16 in the power rankings with a 5-7 overall mark. Most of their losses have come to teams highly ranked, helping them remain in the top 24, which is where they need to finish in order to advance to the state playoffs. The Holbrook squad had a couple of rough outings last week with a 10-4 loss to Blue Ridge on Wednesday followed by a 10-0 loss at Show Low on Friday. Blue Ridge took the early lead on Wednesday with three first inning runs. The Lady Yellowjackets tacked on three more in the second to lead 6-0 before Holbrook countered with a run in the second. The Roadrunners matched the Jackets with single runs in the third, then fell further behind after giving up two in the fourth. Both teams scored once in the fifth and Holbrook tried to rally, scoring once in the seventh. Davi Reyes took the loss in the circle, pitching 51/3 innings and facing 33 batters. She gave up 10 runs, all earned, with 13 hits, two strikeouts and five walks. Demo Perkins pitched the final two-thirds of an inning, striking out both batters she faced. At the plate, Elizabeth Luna went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Alizia Foster was 3 for 3 with a triple, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Kylah Spangler went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs. Perkins was 2 for 4. Jadiana Perez went 1 for 2. Friday’s game against fourth ranked Show Low didn’t go well for the Birds. Show Low took the lead early with four runs in the first, then added one in the third and opened up a 10-run lead with five runs in the fourth. Holbrook struggled at the plate with 9 strikeouts and walked just four. Perkins went 1 for 3. Tess Baldonado took the loss in the circle, where she allowed eight hits with three strikeouts and walked two. After hosting third ranked Winslow on Tuesday, Holbrook will play Mogollon on Thursday, April 17, at Heber, then travel to Globe on Friday.
