The Little Colorado River Horseman’s Association (LCRHA) will host a gymkhana at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in Holbrook. Books open at 10 a.m., and time-only runs begin at 10:45 a.m. Events include barrel racing, Washington poles, streaking poles and hourglass, with a barrel back-thru jackpot race to finish up the fun. Riders of all skill levels and ages, from 2 years old and up, are invited. LCRHA encourages family participation, and a positive attitude toward our equine friends and each other. Prior experience in speed events is not necessary, and each event will be demonstrated prior to competition. A lead-line group is available for riders age 2 to 6. The cost for each event is $5 per rider for non-members and $3 per rider for members. Membership is not required to compete or win prizes at the gymkhana, but members are eligible for year-end awards such as buckles and tack. Gymkhanas are held on the third Saturday of every month at the Navajo County fairgrounds, with morning start times during spring and fall months, and evening start times in the summer months. For more information, a complete schedule, a membership form and event patterns visit www.littlecoloradohorsemen.com, or call Club President Dara Plympton at (928) 536-9110.
