By Greg Perkins The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City picked up three more wins last week, pushing their overall mark to 13-3 with victories over Mogollon, Hayden and El Capitan. Joseph City traveled to Heber on Tuesday and came home with a 50-42 win over a determined Mogollon Lady Mustang team. The Cats led by just two after the first, then by one at the half. At the close of the third they trailed by one, but in the fourth they stepped it up and outscored the Mustangs by nine to earn the 50-42 win. Katelyn Pugh led the team in scoring with 11 points. Madison Fields and Brooke Baldwin added 10 each; Lindi Gardner, 7; Krista Edwards, 6; Sadie Tuckfield, 4; and Sierra Rogers, 2. On Friday Joseph City welcomed in the Lady Lobos from Hayden, but they weren’t very gracious hosts, sending the visitors home with a 57-23 loss. The Cats jumped out to a huge early lead, scoring 27 first period points. They nearly reached that same margin again in the third, outscoring the Lobos 20-2 to cruise to the win. Edwards led the Joseph City charge with 13 points. Gardner added 12; Kaylene Tsosie 8; Amanda Baldwin and Fields, 6 each; Pugh, 4; and Laura Bushman, Tricia Bay-Morgan, Brooke Baldwin and Taylor Elmer, 2 each. Saturday found the Cats again playing on the home court, where they nearly doubled up El Capitan, defeating the Lady Tigers 42-24. Another big first quarter surge led to a 23-4 advantage. That propelled the Wildcats to their fourth consecutive win since returning from the break. Fields played well with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Gardner netted 10 points; Edwards, 6; Pugh added 3 and pulled down 13 rebounds; and Brooke Baldwin and Tsosie each scored 2 points. Joseph City will host Superior tonight (Jan. 24) and Ft. Thomas on Saturday. On Wednesday, the Mustangs from Mogollon make a visit for a rematch with the Cats.
