By Greg Perkins Holbrook’s wrestling team wrapped up a successful week on the mats with an impressive fourth place finish at the highly regarded Peoria Tournament over the weekend. Competing as one of only three Division III schools in a meet dominated by Division I and II schools from Arizona California, Colorado and Nevada, the Roadrunners finished with 146 team points. Sunnyside took top honors with 232, followed by Servitz with 188 and Gila Ridge with 178. Four Roadrunners placed at the meet led by Shem Bowman, who took second. Theron Johns placed fourth, James Ramirez was fifth and Nikko Ferniza finished sixth. “I was very proud with the way we wrestled. Most of our wins were pins, which scored us big points. We had the four placers and the rest of our team contributed valuable points along the way,” said Holbrook Coach John Bokker. “Nikko dominated and pinned on every one of his victories. James bounced back from an early defeat from a Basha wrestler to defeat him for fifth place. Theron wrestled some strong opponents to take fourth. Shem had an outstanding finals match with a returning undefeated state champion from Division I Sunnyside. It was an exciting match that could have gone either way.He was down 5-4 in the final seconds and went for the win. He slipped off and gave up the takedown, losing 7-4 to get second.” Individually for Holbrook, Sam Plumb went 0-2; Domonic Spencer, 2-2 with two pins; Johns, 4-2 with three pins; Ramirez, 4-2 with three pins; Levi McClellan, 2-2 with two pins; Justin Richards, 1-2 with a pin; Shane McGraw, 2-2 with two pins; Jedde Bowman, 1-2 with a pin; Clayton Hunt, 2-2 with a pin; Kevin Self, 3-2 with three pins; Ferniza, 4-3 with four pins; Shem Bowman, 4-1 with two pins; CJ Plumb, 2-2 with two pins; and Angel Aguilera, 4-1 with three pins.
