Photo courtesy of the Old Trails MuseumThe roads were still fairly primitive in the early 1900s and getting stuck was not uncommon. In this circa 1920s photograph, Winslow residents (left to right) David Figg, Gus Hanson, Joseph LeChance and Bill Kelly looked happy, but a little worse for the wear after their car was pulled from a flooded wash. They were en route to the Hopi Snake Dance planned on the Hopi Reservation north of Winslow when they were stranded for four days.

Photo courtesy of George Washington AcademyGeorge Washington Academy’s co-ed soccer team has started the season off with a bang! The Patriots are currently undefeated and have looked dangerous right from the start. GWA hosted its first home game against Northern Arizona Christian Academy April 6. Though the Patriots were outsized, they weren’t out-hustled. Dean B. scored the first goal as GWA came out on fire. NACA tied it up just before the half, but the second half started out even faster than the first as Dean netted his second goal and Karli W. followed that up with a third goal to put the Patriots up 3-1. NACA scored to tighten things up, but Jaren B. decided to celebrate his birthday with a goal of his own. It proved to be the game winner as the Patriots edged the Warriors 4-3. Logan S. and Enoch S. have taken turns in the goal and have made several big saves in each of the games. Enoch put in a tough shift in the second half of Thursday’s game as the Warriors attacked the Patriot goal with a vengeance for the last 10 minutes of the game. He and defender Kambria B. thwarted their opponents at every turn.
