The group cleared out weeds, removed debris and washed graffiti from windows, making a tremendous difference along one of Holbrook’s main thoroughfares. Those who took time out of their weekend to serve their community included (left to right) Sonya Brinkerhoff, Katrina Jaime, Johnny Jaime, Ray Bazan, Cindy Tafoya, John Jimenez, Sandy King, Theresa Tafoya holding Elijah Jaime, Tany Tafoya, Levi Tafoya, Tamara Bazan, Mayor Bobby Tyler, (not pictured) Pete Tafoya, John Truscott and Doris Gerwitz. Even the little ones helped out, including (in the wheelbarrow) Remy Tafoya, Hayden Tafoya and Adriel Jaime.

Most of them had never run more than three miles, but through discipline and hard work, all of them finished a very rigorous 13.1-mile course, mostly uphill. “This is a great group of kids that have proven they can finish what they start, both physically and mentally,” commented Running Club sponsor Lelia Demuth. The club is an element of the Holbrook School District’s Healthy Holbrook campaign.
