The Taylor/Shumway Heritage Foundation will hold its annual fundraising Hostess Dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Taylor Stake Center, located at 309 W. Willow. The theme will be Amazing Arizona. Everyone from Taylor, Shumway and the surrounding areas is invited to attend. The suggested donation is $25 a couple or $10 for an individual, but in these economic times, a lesser donation is appreciated as well. Dinner will start right at 6 p.m., followed by a program honoring Arizona and Taylor. Call Carmen Shumway at 536-7294 if you wish to be a hostess for the dinner or if you would like to attend. Proceeds from the event will be used to maintain the Heritage Foundation’s sites and finance its activities, as it is receiving less from other sources. The foundation is in the process of republishing Ida Webb’s History of Taylor, which contains so many photos of people from yesteryear. It will also include a good index so you can find the photo you are seeking. Foundation members are also developing the Shumway Schoolhouse lot as a center for Home Evenings or young people’s group activities. It now has a sand volleyball court and tether ball, the Eagle project of Trenton Caldwell; a horseshoe pit, the Eagle project of Jared Rowles; and tables and benches to accommodate a large group, the Eagle project of Taylor Cole. The landing at the top of the front steps is a great place for a program. The bridge which used to span Show Low Creek has been erected behind the school and will become part of a walkway around the lot for those who want a bit of exercise. The sidewalk from the front gate to the steps was recently completed as part of an Eagle project by Hunter Frost. Call the Taylor/Shumway Heritage Foundation at 536-6649 to make reservations for group activities there.
