As Winslow continues to undergo improvements to its streets, motorists may be temporarily inconvenienced by a need to detour traffic. As part of the project the Arizona Department of Transportation will be installing two new traffic signals on Williamson Avenue at the intersections of Second and Third streets. Some additional enhancements that will be included as part of this project include sidewalk repair, new pavement and new curbs.
The timeline includes the intersection of Williamson Avenue and Second Street being closed for five weeks from July 7 to Aug. 10. Additional work will occur after Aug. 10, but traffic lanes will be open at this intersection. Although the intersection will be closed to regular traffic, emergency vehicles will have access through the construction zone at all times.
The intersection will reopen prior to school starting, and the intersection of Williamson Avenue and Third Street will remain open.
In addition, the underpass at Williamson Avenue will be closed starting July 7, and will remain closed for about two and a half weeks. Traffic will need to follow the detour that will travel from Williamson Avenue and Fourth Street westbound to the Winslow Industrial Spur, then travel back toward Williamson Avenue on Coopertown Road. The closure could possibly last a few days longer for some additional work, which was recently added to that project.
All construction is scheduled to be completed in time for major community events that are planned in September and October.
