Though 66 early ballots and three provisional ballots remained to be verified Wednesday morning, it appeared that Shawn Palmer and Fay Hatch were elected to the Taylor Town Council in Tuesday’s primary election.

Shawn Palmer was the top vote-getter in the race for three council seats with 492, followed by Hatch with 406; Gary Solomon, 332; incumbent Robin Palmer, 268; Greg Cardita, 211; and Lon Willis, 94. A total of 646 ballots were counted.

The remaining votes were expected to be verified and counted on Thursday. If Solomon received 27 votes from those remaining, it would give him a majority of the total cast and he would also be declared a winner. In that case, no general election would be held in May.

The Home Rule option was renewed by voters, 478-104. It allows council members to set expenditure limitations when they set the budget, rather than have the State of Arizona set the limit.
