In recognition of 80 years of rodeo, exhibits, livestock shows, pageantry, carnival and exhibits, the Navajo County Fair Board has selected a theme for the upcoming 2011 fair. This year’s theme, The Little Fair That Could, 80 Years Of Celebration, will represent a relaunching of an event that has grown to be a favorite not only locally, but throughout the western states.

There will be no major changes to this year’s fair, but Board President Mike Mellor would like to see advertising for the event begin earlier in the year and have the fair’s royalty attend more events to promote the upcoming fair.

In other business, Mellor informed the board that the jockey building has been cleaned up and that a new floor has been constructed in the announcer’s stand.

The board is also looking into the purchase of a new laptop computer for ShowWorks to replace the outdated and inadequate computer currently being used. In addition, the board is researching a new web host for its website and looking for local businesses and individuals who do that work.

In other business, the board approved a facilities request by Esmeralda and T.J. Aguilera for June 11.

The board also voted to change the meeting date in order to accommodate board members’ schedules. The new date will be the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The next board meeting will be held on March 3.
