Free Property Revitalization Lunch-n-Learn

Thursday, October 22 · 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Winslow property owners, businesses, and citizens are invited to a free Lunch-N-Learn at the Winslow Visitor Center/Hubbell Trading Post (523 W 2nd Street) on October 22nd from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The City of Winslow and Navajo County have access to money that can be used for revitalizing properties at no cost to owners.

Six-hundred and fifty thousand dollars in funding remains from a grant awarded to the Northern Arizona Council of Governments and the Route 66 Brownfield Revitalization coalition members, which include the city and Coconino County by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of a Property Revitalization Program. Money is available to property owners on a first-come, first served basis until Sept. 30, 2028. Ideal candidates to receive funding include owners of previously utilized properties and older buildings that could be reused, redeveloped, or renovated but where work may be complicated by the potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. The vast majority of the 36 properties already assessed with this grant have had little or no contamination, and the no cost services the grant funded were sufficient to generate interest from banks, investors, developers, and potential purchasers. An important feature of this program is that property owners who get a free assessment have no obligation to take any additional action.

Those interested in attending the lunch-n-learn event should RSVP to Amanda Guay by Oct. 20 at amanda.guay@stantec.com. More information on the grant program can be found at Route 66 Brownfield Site Revitalization | Northern Arizona Council of Governments.
