Senior Ian Masayesva was the only Holbrook athlete to qualify for the State Track and Field Championships held at Mesa Community College on Friday and Saturday.
In order to qualify, athletes have to have one of the top 18 times in their respective events, in the entire state regardless of division rankings.
Masayesva qualified in the 1600-meter run and ran a personal best time of 4:20.32, which is also believed to be a school record in that event. He placed 17th overall in the race but was the top runner from the region and the fourth best from Division IV while running against all the top runners from around the state.
The senior has signed to run for Coconino Community College next year. He will be joined at the College by teammates William Nez and Devin Kinlicheenie.
