Snowflake finished fifth as a team at the Division III Section II meet held at Moon Valley High School on Saturday. American Leadership Academy Gilbert North dominated the team event with 266.5 team points for first place. Show Low followed in second with 179, Thunderbird was third with 136.5, and Prescott placed fourth with 134.5. The Lobos finished with 133 team points.
Individually Snowflake had six wrestlers qualify for the state meet with two taking sectional crowns in their weight classes.
Kannon Smith (126) went 3-0 with one decision, and two pins to win his title, garnering 14 team points in the process. Logan Bailey (106) won all three of his matches with two pins and one technical pin for another 14 team points.
Edge Bryant (113) finished runner in his class with a 2-1 record. Krew Burden was also 2-1 in this class, with each wrestler picking up 10 team points.
Omar Marin (175) went 3-1 claiming third in his class garnering 7 team points. Gunner Cardon (157) matched that 3-1 performance and earned 7 team points.
Those competing who did not qualify for the state meet included Cohen Brimhall (138) who went 0-2. Dalton Larson (215) went 1-2. Gavin Papa (150) was 0-2. Jack Butler (190) was 1-2. Jamon Hatch (132) went 2-2. Karson Kupfer (165) finished 1-2.
The state qualifiers will join Lady Lobos, Ellie Bryant, Mareli Marin, Brooklinn Baldwin, Sara Shumway, Emilyta Tso, Julia Jones, Madi De La Cruz, Laini Hancock and Sara Blackman at the state wrestling meet held at Veterans Memorial Coliseum this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
