On Jan. 27, the Winslow Lady Bulldogs hosted the Show Low Lady Cougars in a game that would find both teams playing defense and scoring being kept to a minimum, especially in the first half.
In the first quarter the score would stay tied until the final moment when the Lady Cougars would score two quick baskets to outshoot the Lady Bulldogs 8-4.
In the second quarter the Bulldogs would turn up their defense and hold the Cougars to just 1 point while they scored 12 points for a halftime score of Winslow 16, Show Low 9.
In the third quarter the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Cougars 14-11. In the fourth quarter both teams would trade baskets, with just 1 point separating the two teams. The final score was Winslow 40, Show Low 29.
Winslow had Kaitlyn Belone in double figures with 17 points, including two 3-point shots. Winslow was 12 of 20 from the line.
Show Low was 8 of 18 from the line.
Congratulations to former Lady Bulldog Jaci Gonnie who currently holds over six Winslow High School records in basketball and volleyball. Now playing for Lower Columbia College in Washington, she as her first college record for most 3-point shots in a single game with 11.
On Jan. 30, the Winslow Lady Bulldogs hosted the Alchesay Lady Falcons of Whiteriver in a game where last week the Falcons dominated on their home court. This time they would find a very poised Bulldog team who would stay close till the final buzzer.
In the first quarter the Bulldogs would outshoot the Falcons 17-12. In the second quarter the Falcons would score 8 points to the Bulldogs 5 points for a halftime score of Alchesay 20, Winslow 22.
In the third quarter the Lady Falcons would take the lead by scoring 14 points to the Lady Bulldogs 8 points. In the fourth quarter both teams would score in double figures, the Falcons 21 and the Bulldogs 18, for a final score of Alchesay 55, Winslow 48.
Winslow had Kaitlyn Belone in double figures with 12 points. Natilyn Nez and Taylin Puhuhefvaya each had 9 points. Winslow was 5 of 5 from the line.
