If you’ve driven through Joseph City or Holbrook recently, you’ve probably noticed some fresh color around town. In Joseph City, Winslow artist Yancey Katoney painted a storytelling mural on the side of Roger’s Custom Cuts on Main Street. In Holbrook, artist Wes Abarca has brightened three spots: the Bucket of Suds car wash on Hopi Drive, its Navajo Blvd. location, and the Empty Pockets Saloon.

In communities where the landscape leans toward dust, concrete, and long stretches of muted tones, these colorful murals have become something more than decoration. A single painted wall can shift the feeling of an entire block and break through the sameness. It’s a reminder that beauty belongs to all of us, even in the quietest corners of our communities.

We all know that color has the power to lift moods, ignite imagination, and creates moments of joy where there were none. So be sure to thank these business owners for bringing a bright spot to our lives. And a thank you to those talented artists. Not only have they beautified our communities, but they’ve also opened our eyes to new possibilities and wake up ideas that we may foster to improve our communities.
