Members of the senior class at Winslow High School organized a food sale in honor of their classmate Ady Leonard who passed away, proceeds from which were donated back to her family.

Adysen “Ady” Leonard left a permanent mark on the community of Winslow—a testament not only to her strength but to the immense love that surrounded her. Though her recent passing has deeply saddened those who knew and loved her, Ady’s journey has brought a community closer together in support, remembrance, and celebration of her life.

A senior at Winslow High School, Ady was known for her enthusiasm, kindness, and unwavering spirit. She was an active cheerleader and passionately involved in numerous extracurricular activities. Her dedication shone brightly when she and her dance team secured a state championship earlier this February, a proud moment for her, her family, and her school.

Then she suddenly became ill, initially diagnosed with two types of flu and severe pneumonia, alongside other complicated lung issues. Ady was hospitalized on April 12 and spent over two weeks bravely battling her illness before passing away on April 29, 2025. Her condition required extensive medical care, including multiple blood transfusions. It was particularly poignant that Ady herself had previously been responsible for organizing blood drives at Winslow High School, further illustrating her deeply rooted care for others.

“My dear sweet Adysen is able to rest now,” shared her father, Eric Leonard. “She is free of anxiety, stress, and any sickness that was in her body. We are heartbroken, and this pain is terrible, but we know she is surrounded by friends and loved ones and definitely dancing with them.”

Ady’s hospitalization deeply impacted the community. Ady came from a family deeply connected to Winslow High School and the entire community, both her parents have worked for the school. Her father, Eric Leonard, works as an athletic trainer and has taught sports medicine, while her mother, Lani Leonard, serves as a substitute teacher. Ady is the middle child of her siblings Tysen, Jacksen, Eme and Hudsen. Ady and her family are also involved in their church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is where her service was held on Monday.

Ady’s illness inspired an extraordinary community response. From heartfelt messages and prayers to tangible acts of kindness, Winslow showed an overwhelming wave of support. Ady’s classmates organized a rolled taco fundraiser at the Girl Scout House, personally reaching out to local businesses to secure donations and make the event possible.

Local establishments, including Relic Road Brewing Co., Sipp Shoppe, China Feast, and Alonso’s Mexican Food, each dedicated special sales and promotions, donating proceeds directly to the Leonard family. Walmart honored her memory by placing balloons throughout their store, creating a visual reminder of the community’s solidarity and love.

The Winslow High School Softball Booster Club dedicated their playoff season to Ady, declaring her their “No. 1 fan” and wearing pink in her honor during their recent victory against Snowflake. This gesture of remembrance extended throughout the community, with groups and individuals alike donning pink, a touching tribute to a young life whose vibrancy resonated deeply.

Ady’s mother, Lani Leonard, expressed profound gratitude for the continuous love and prayers received, noting, “Every time our family has found ourselves in a crisis, we have been overwhelmed with love and support from all of you.” She described the comfort and peace the family felt during Ady’s illness, attributing it to the countless prayers and thoughtful gestures from friends, family, and neighbors.

Though her physical presence is deeply missed, Adysen Leonard’s legacy remains vibrant. She united a community, inspired acts of generosity and reminded everyone of the profound impact one life can have. As her father beautifully stated, “Adysen isn’t resting in peace—she’s having a party and dancing as much as possible now.”

In celebrating Ady, Winslow not only mourns a heartbreaking loss but also honors a life that inspired unity, compassion and enduring community spirit.
