When it comes to supporting young mothers and families, few organizations in the region have made as lasting an impact as the Holbrook Pregnancy Center. For the past 19 years, the center—led by director Kathy White—has been a vital resource for pregnant women and parents of children under age 4. From diapers and clothing to toys, furniture, and emotional support, the center provides families with the essentials they need to thrive. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the center offers a warm, welcoming, shop-like atmosphere where families can access help with dignity and comfort. During a visit, it’s easy to see the need in action—children exploring the toy area while parents browse for gently used clothing. Currently, the center serves approximately 100 families within a 25-mile radius. Supplies are available in exchange for “Mommy Bucks,” which are distributed based on family size. “Little kids come in and they get a free toy to take home. If they want books, all the books are free,” White shared. Expecting mothers are encouraged to visit as early as they’d like. “They can collect all nine months. It’s just a matter of when they come in,” she added. The center is made possible by the collective efforts of the community. Ten local Christian churches provide financial support to cover utilities, while the building itself is generously donated by Randy Murph. A dedicated team of volunteers keeps the center running smoothly. In addition to everyday items, the store offers larger necessities like cribs, highchairs, and bouncers. A free food pantry, regularly stocked by Wings of Faith, provides baby formula, snacks, cereal, water, and other non-perishables. Donations are always welcomed. The center accepts new or gently used children’s clothing (newborn to size 7), baby and toddler essentials, and furniture. A complete list of accepted items is posted on the front door. Monetary donations are also appreciated, as they help cover operational costs and allow the purchase of new items. “We go through a lot of supplies,” White said. “A lot of moms come in and don’t even know what they need, so we also provide a lot of information.” Volunteer Christina Turley began serving after visiting with Healthy Families. “Head Start and Healthy Families also hold meetings here,” she noted, bringing a wide range of support services directly into the center. Thanks to the generosity of several community partners, the facility recently underwent much-needed upgrades. New flooring was installed with a grant from Bilbie’s Interiors in Show Low. Bread of Life Mission in Holbrook contributed new shelving, and a new door was installed by Kevin Kits. Local churches provided a new back security door, further enhancing the safety and functionality of the center. The facility includes not just the storefront, but also a quiet room, a pantry, a bathroom with a changing table, a laundry room (where all donated clothes are washed), and storage areas for incoming donations. Holbrook Pregnancy Center is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday and is located at 214 E. Hopi Drive. Donations are welcome and deeply appreciated. To celebrate the recent improvements, the Holbrook Pregnancy Center will host a Grand Re-Opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. The public is invited to attend. The event will feature light refreshments, door prizes, and fun activities. Donations will be accepted onsite—so grab a pack of diapers and come celebrate the incredible work being done for families in the community.
