Holbrook bounced back from last week’s 2-point loss to Winslow by adding two more checks to their win column this week.

Playing in Show Low on Friday night, they fed off the hot hand of Jaron Becenti’s four treys in the first period to lead 27-17. Chase Salabye added 4 in the second and Tyler Tapaha hit four free throws, guiding Holbrook to a 10-point halftime lead. Show Low made a bit of a run in the third, but in the final frame Holbrook netted 16 points to secure the 65-47 win.

Jaron Becenti led Holbrook in scoring, with an 18-point effort. Tapaha added 16; Travis Bia, 9; Caleb Cummings, 6; Salabye, 6; Leyton Tom, 3; Manny Rico, 3; Manny Guerrero, 2; and Brady Becenti helped with 2.

Saturday night Holbrook made the trek to Kayenta to face Monument Valley. The Roadrunners led by just 4 after one but used a big second quarter to lead 31-17 at the half. The Mustangs trimmed 2 off that margin in the third, but Holbrook netted 9 in the fourth to comfortably win the game 54-39.

Jaron Becenti again led the team in scoring with 16 points. Cummings added 11; Salabye, 10; Tapaha, 7; Rico, 5; Tom, 3; and Bia added 2.

With the pair of wins, Holbrook improved their regular season mark to 18-5. They are 10-3 in regular season games and were ranked 14th in the 3A rankings before the two wins over the weekend.

This week they host region-leading Alchesay on Tuesday night, then will try to avenge a 2-point loss to Snowflake when the Lobos come to town on Friday night. Next week Holbrook wraps up the regular season with a trip to Alchesay on Tuesday and a home game with Show Low on Wednesday night.
