Snowflake had a tough week, dropping all three of their contests with two of those losses being east region losses. The Lobos were in Winslow on Tuesday night where they had a one-point lead in the final seconds but saw that evaporate with Winslow making a driving lay-up at the horn to win the game 53-52.
Friday night the Lobos traveled to the Chief Alchesay Center where they fell to the Falcons 50-45. The Lobos started well in the first eight minutes, holding a 17-12 lead, but in the second their offense went flat. The Lobos managed just two in the quarter leaving them on the wrong side of a 23-19 halftime score.
They battled back in the third, making it a 2-point game going into the final frame where both teams scored better. The Lobos netted 18 in the quarter, but the Falcons outdid them with 21 points to secure the 5-point win.
Saturday night Snowflake welcomed Valley Christian to Lobo Gym. The Trojans once again have a stacked roster and they came in ranked No. 2 in the 3A rankings just behind Gilbert Christian. Valley Christian will more than likely be one of the final teams in the open tournament this year, so the Lobos won’t have to worry about facing them in the state tournament unless of course they too advance as one of the final four open division teams.
This game went the way of the highly touted Trojans from the start and finished with Valley Christian leaving town with an 85-57 win.
The initial power point rankings were released on Tuesday last week. Snowflake entered Friday’s game ranked ninth overall. They currently have a 10-8 overall record and are now 3-2 in the east region and 6-5 in regular-season contests.
This week they play at No. 28 Show Low on Tuesday, will host No. 19 Payson on Thursday, and then will host a struggling Blue Ridge team ranked 36th on Friday. Next Wednesday they travel to the Valley to face ALA-Anthem South who is ranked 46th in the 2A rankings.
